About the event

In this engaging 2-hour class, students will create a dynamic collage still life using a rich variety of materials including handmade papers, painted papers, magazines, stencils, and textured elements. Guided by artist and instructor Karen Drumheller, participants will explore how to thoughtfully combine imagery, color, and texture to build depth and visual interest.

Karen will lead students through essential collage concepts such as composition, focal point, balance, and effective layering techniques, while also encouraging experimentation and personal expression. Demonstrations and one-on-one guidance will help students gain confidence in their creative choices and discover new approaches to collage as a fine art medium.

This class is suitable for all skill levels and offers a supportive, exploratory environment. Students will leave with a completed collage still life, along with inspiration and practical ideas for continuing their collage practice beyond the classroom.

    Mission Statement

Renton Art Oasis is a nonprofit dedicated to nurturing the creative spirit of Renton’s local artists through access to resources, public exposure, and community-driven programming. We believe art is for everyone, and we work to remove barriers by offering free or low-cost classes, providing art supplies, and creating inclusive spaces where all people—regardless of background or income—can participate. Our mission is to cultivate a vibrant arts scene by empowering artists and fostering meaningful connections between creators and the community.

    We believe:

Art lives everywhere - not just in galleries or studios, but in neighborhoods, conversations, and everyday acts of creativity.

Art is for everyone - every voice matters, and every form of expression
    has value.

Art builds community - bringing people together to imagine, heal, and grow.

If it comes from a place of intention, imagination, or lived experience,
    it belongs here.

Renton Art Oasis is a home for all forms of art—and all who create it.
